For an authentic taste of Savannah, nothing tops lunch at the Legendary Wilkes House. Since 1943, this local institution has been dishing up unforgettable plates of traditional Southern fare. From 11 am to 2 pm, locals and visitors alike gather in the quaint dining room to feast on Southern classics like platters of fried chicken, corn muffins, and black-eyed peas.
Once you enter, you'll take a seat at one of the large tables that hold up to 10 guests. You'll have the pleasure of sharing your meal with strangers as you pass overflowing plates of food around the table. Other tasty items on offer include okra gumbo, sweet potato souffle, and homemade biscuits. Regulars know the menu changes frequently, so you can come back again and again for something different each time.
If you want to experience Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room, just make sure to get there early.
