If you are looking for BBQ in Savannah, look no further than the Sandfly BBQ. The locals know how good this Memphis-style goodness is and the tourists are catching on, thanks to Trip Advisor.
Keith Latture is a formally trained fine dining chef and originally came to Savannah to open Local 11ten. The Local is still going strong but Keith is from Memphis and grew up on BBQ. So, he decided to take over his family's BBQ spot using his formal training to make fun and creative sides to go with the BBQ.
For years, he operated Sandfly BBQ "off the beaten path" tucked away in a strip mall near Wormsloe Historic Site. Business was good and he patiently waited for the perfect location to become available to expand.
Recently, that location in Downtown Savannah was opened in the old Streamliner Diner on Barnard and Henry Streets. He brought on board Cameron Cheney, formerly of Tybee Fish Camp and winner of 2014 Eat It and Like It Iron Chef Challenge and B. Tillman to manage the new location.
You want to try the Duck Fat Fries and the Mac'n Cheese (known by some as the Best in Savannah). The Sandfly's eclectic décor and craft beer menu round out the BBQ experience that you don't want to miss.
You will certainly want to mark the Sandfly on your list of places to eat while visiting the Best Western Plus Savannah District Hotel. With its location in the heart of Savannah's Historic District, the Sandfly is only a mile and a half away.
