Visiting Old Fort Jackson

Experience the exciting history of Savannah just minutes from the historic district at Old Fort Jackson. This National Historic Landmark encourages visitors to step back into time with fun interactive programs. You can tour the fort, dress up like a foot soldier, and take part in family-friendly events. And don't miss the daily cannon firings from the banks of the Savannah River that everyone loves!

Along with the important history comes with spectacular views of Savannah. Perched along the coast, you can soak in lovely vistas of the Savannah River, the city skyline, and the Talmadge Bridge. Keep on the lookout for wildlife as well, because you might just see a bald eagle or a dolphin playing in the water!

Built in 1808, Old Jackson Fort is famous for being the oldest brick fort along the East Coast. It was key to protecting Savannah during the War of 1812 and was an important site during the Civil War. In 2000, it was awarded the National Historic Landmark designation. The fort is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm and admission is $7 for adults and $4 for children (ages 2-12). It's located just a 10-minute ride from our hotel in the Savannah Historic District.
